Baller is Gipsy Hill’s core IPA, sitting alongside their session strength Hepcat. It’s packed full of juicy mango, lychee, and grapefruit flavours, making this a delicious IPA for hop lovers. Baller is vegan-friendly but contains gluten.
I don’t feel nearly cool enough to be drinking a beer named Baller.
Decorated with a man who looks suspiciously like Danny Dyer, Baller is South London brewer Gipsy Hill’s core IPA.
At 5.4%, this IPA is strong enough to pack a punch but still lightweight enough that you can enjoy two or three over the course of a night out.
The can label also claims the brewers have taken everything they know about making IPA and put it into this beer. Which, I suspect, is a lot less impressive than it looks at first. I wouldn’t expect them to discard half their brewing knowledge before starting the boil.
Baller pours a hazy dark yellow with a loose, off-white head. The citrus and tropical aromas punch you in the face: pink grapefruit and mango, finished off with a delicate, floral lychee.
On the palate, pink grapefruit bitterness and tropical sweetness balance. The oily, thick mouthfeel gets broken up by a healthy dose of bubbles. All in all, the elements play well together.
At £3.50 a can from my local craft beer shop, I can certainly think of worse choices to kick off an evening. At £2.40 each when buying direct from the brewer, Baller looks like excellent value.
I haven’t tasted many beers from Gipsy Hill before – but this surely won’t be my last.
